Two Prizes from Academy of Sci-fi, Fantasy and Horror
Stories of Your Life by Ted Chiang won the prize in the Storybook category, and Pulse of Infinity, edited by Ivan Adamovič was awarded book of the year. Both prizes were awarded by Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror at the Book World Fair on Saturday May 19. Both books were released by Albatros Media’s Plus Publishing.
Pulse of Infinity: An anthology of Czech sci-fi stories from 1948 through the 70s. The selection focuses not only on stories by established authors and pieces already anthologized, but the editor also uncovered one-off stories written by authors who hadn’t followed this genre otherwise. Since magazines were less subject to censorship and had a shorter turnaround time, unlike the years it took to publish books, this material helps provide a much more accurate view of the Czech science fiction. The anthology has brought together stories from twenty-six different authors, among them some that were later silenced or forgotten. Each story is accompanied by a profile of the author, and in the case of those still living, a personal memory about the origin of the story.
