Three Golden Ribbons for Books from our Publishing House
Our publishing house received an impressive three Golden Ribbons for books this year – Radek Malý’s The Postman Wind and Knots and Oranges by Iva Procházková, both published by Albatros; and for Hana Bořkovcová’s I'm Writing With the Notebook Resting on My Knees, published by Plus.
Radek Malý, recent winner of a Golden Ribbon for Children’s Literature, won a number of awards this year—including the most prestigious Czech literary award, the Magnezia Litera in the category of Children and Young Adult Literature—for his collection of fall poetry for children, which was beautifully illustrated by Pavel Čech.
Iva Prochazková’s Knots and Oranges, which earned a Golden Ribbon in the Young Adult category, also made it to the Magnezia Litera finale. The story of the uneasy adolescence of a country boy, surviving thanks to horses and love was a big hit.
The diaries of Hana Bořkovcová—who would become a successful author of children’s books—written in the Terezín concentration camp during World War II carry extraordinary power. Plus Publishing released them under the title I Write With a Notebook on My Knees – Diaries 1940 – 1946, and they were awarded a Golden Ribbon for Book of the Year.
