Diary 1952 nominated for Magnesia Litera
Diary 1952, published last year in imprint Plus, was nominated for annual book award Magnesia Litera for a Publishing Deed.
Diary 1952 is one of the most striking artistic
expressions of anxiety felt under an oppressive regime. It has been compared to Goya’s Los Caprichos – and such comparisons are by no means
exaggerated as Vladimír Fuka’s drawings and collages have a unique power that can only be achieved through sublime art; a power that literally
draws the reader/viewer into the dark atmosphere of the 1950s.
The author, Vladimír Fuka (1926–1977) is one of the most
admired and original Czech artists of the 20th century, recognized especially for his illustrations of children’s books. Dissident to the communist
regime, he was only allowed to publish and exhibit his works freely in the 1960s when he became famous for his book illustrations. After his 1967
departure into the US exile, his illustrations were completely banned for more than twenty years, returning to his audience only after the fall of
Communism in 1989.
MAGNESIA LITERA is a prestigious annual book award, which aims to promote and popularize high-quality
literature and book production

transp...
