Albatros wins two Golden Ribbons

The Golden Ribbon, the most prestigious award in children’s books, has been awarded to two books published by Albatros.

The anthology of 19th Century poetry, Clouds, Claws, Clutter, Hrábky drábky odpadky, won the Golden Ribbon for design in the preteen and young adult category. This is not its first award. Its illustrator, Chrudoš Valoušek, won the Hollar Award in the Most Beautiful Book 2012 contest, as well as an Albatros Publishing award for design.

For the literary portion of the young adult fiction category, Albatros was a sure-bet from the start: we published all three nominated books. In the end, Michaela Fišarová took home the Golden Ribbon for her first book, Nikola’s Trip, Nikolina cesta.

Other nominations include: The Enchanted Joker, Začarovaný Tatrmánek by Jaroslav Vrchlicky (design), Stanislava Reschová’s Gosh Dang and Other Fairy-Tales,  Ježkovy voči a jiné pohádky (literary), The Turnkey’s Craft, Společenstvo klíčníků by Daniela Krolupperová, Amelie and the Darkness, Amélie a tma by Petra Neomillnerová and Eva Dobrovolná for her translation of Catheryne Valente’s The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

The annual award for our best writers, illustrators and translators of children and young adult literature. The contest is organized and held by the Czech branch of IBBY, The Club of Children’s Book Illustrators, The Czech Literary Translators’ Guild and The Museum of Czech Literature.

But one day Ms. Stoklasová suffers a heart attack looking after little Martin. He calls 911 and saves her life. In return Ms. Stoklasová grants him a wish – Martin wishes for Nikola to go on a ski trip... More
